Why does A2002 create A2000 mdbs?

Hi.

This is not a problem - I'm just curious. On my XP Professional laptop, when
I load Access and click Help/About Access, it says Access 2002. Why then does
it create databases in "Access 2000 file format" ? I see that I can convert
these to 2002 so why does it not create mdbs in Access 2002 format in the
first place?

Thanks, JohnB

It's for maximum compatibility and interchangeability in a mixed-version
office. You can set the default file format on the Advanced tab of the
Tools -> Options... dialog.
