Why doesn't Office detect my older version files?

I just upgraded to office 2003, but i can't open my office 2000 documents!
For that matter, i can't even open office 2003 documents. Can someone help?

Do you get an error message?

Do you have Norton? Disable script blocking and in Norton options, disable Office
plug-ins.
