why is Access97 on windows 2000 shortening my filenames?

I have been using Access97 on Win 95 (yes you heard correct!) at work for a
couple of years but recently got a new PC with Win2000 and Access97. I have
a report called "Rhythm Reports v9.5.mdb" which over the last couple of days
has been working fine. But when I close it down and go into it the next day
it is missing. There is however a file called "Rhythm9.mdb" instead, with
the same date and size as the previous filename. Can I stop this from
happening?
