Why is my FTP site folder unavailable?

I am using Publisher 2003 to publish a website. I was given FTP information
from my geocities host. I created an FTP site in the FTP locations folder.
in the File Menu, I clicked Publish to the Web. In the Save In box, I
clicked on FTP locations, then I double clicked on the listed FTP site I
created. When I double clicked it said that the folder was not accessible.
The folder looked like this ftp//:ftp.geocities.com
How do I access this folder so I can publish my website?

I am not posting to a URL, I am posting to an FTP location, and geocities,
the host for my webpage, which is http://www.geocities.com/carlaasepnberg
says that my FTP location is ftp.geocities.com with a username and password.
I set up an FTP folder with this location in it and my computer won't open
it. Do you have any more suggestions?
