why my Excel attachment to email opens with Word?

Describe exactly how you "tried" to change it. That's the only place that
controls which apps open which file types.

I have not changed anything. For some reason, the PC changed the
configueration of Excel attachements as Word when it opens from Outlook
Express email. If I hit any key by mistake to make this happen, I do not know
or remember it.

PCs don't have minds of their own. They do exactly what they are told to
do. So, what exactly does Folder Options say is the command to open types
of type .xls?
