Why won't the video work?

I am using powerpoint 2000 and i added a video just as i was taught and how help says to and it loads up and shows it is there in the slide by showing the first frame of it....but here is where the problem starts....as soon as i try to play it i get a white screen....what can i do to change this?

How long are the names of the videos. WHen this happened to me, i shortened the names to less than 20? characters and the problem was solved. Bizarre but true
