Will this ever work???

The themes disappeared and there was no backup so the menus disappeared. So I
went and copied all the files to my computer and am trying to republish the
thing over from the files off my conputer to try and restore the website the
way it is supposed to be and it keeps telling me i can't publish to the open
site. Willl this work???

it should. does your local copy look like what you had up on the server?

I'd suspect that the theme disappearing and the inability to publish are
related and that there's something wrong with the server.

Have you contacted your host?

I am helping my friend with this and she lost the password so asked that it
be reset and when it was the menu disappeared and so did the themes and she
does not have a copy and neither does her web host so she gave me access to
the site because i have some frontpage knowledge and thought i could help her
so i downloaded all the files off there to my server so that's where i am at
now i have a copy of all the files and even in the hidden files her themes
was missing... i know it was there because about 2 months ago i saw it. So I
just want to restore it back with the menus the way it was.

From off of the server where it is being hosted. She has nothing only
printouts and her host does make backups... unbelievable eh! this is turning
into a real nightmare...

You're going to have to find the theme that was used and reapply it to the web, and then recreate
the navigation.

Thanks for the help so far i think i put the themes in of course there is no
menu just a flat page with the background and navigation i don't know what to
do now i am so stressed about this....

J

janice

okay here is the latest when i open the web on the net and look at the
navigation it has a minus sign but then below all the pages that are supposed
to be ther are linked so i asume it should be a plus sin so that my menu
would show up how do i get that back?

S

Steve Easton

The minus sign shows when the navigation below is being displayed. That is normal.

The plus sign shows when there is navigation below that has not been "expanded.".

Have you tried switching to the Navigation view? Is there
anything there?

If not, you will have to recreate the navigation. Your
friend will have to sit down next to you while you do
this as I assume they can noodle out the missing menu and
you can't.

S

Steve Easton

There is no option to save after you recalculate hyperlinks.
It's a action that is just "done" when you tell FrontPage to do it

your server guys burned you when they reset it that way. what's happened to
you rarely happens without outside influence.

stay on it you'll get it. You may have to re-make the navigation structure.

It didn't work to recalulate, somehow it isn't picking up the navigation the
navigation is all there but the menu isn't I can't get it to come back I
phoned the isp and of course they claim they didn't do anything so I said
well you reset the password and the menu and the theme are gone and he plays
dumb of course. So I said where did it go and his excuse is he never made the
website.

S

Steve Easton

You are going to have to recreate the navigation structure.

I don't know how to that's another problem. I see navigation and I have the
set up where I want it but how do I get it to put in the buttons?

S

Stefan B Rusynko

From the Menu select View Navigation and drag your pages onto the nav view from the Folder List
Then on a page use Insert Navigation
