Windows installer opens before Word

P

P.K.

I've been using Office 2003 on this computer for a year. (XP media
center.) About a month ago, I upgraded to MS Money 2007, and it
crashed, and crashed, and crashed. I created a new profile in case the
old one was corrupted. It didn't help, I uninstalled 2007 and went back
to 2004. Ever since this problem, new profile, etc., whenever I open
Word, Windows Installer pops up. It goes away pretty quickly, but it
seriously delays the opening of Word. It does not happen for any other
other Office programs - Excel, Publisher, etc.

I've been using the "Open A New Office Document" feature to get into
Word, because Installer doesn't appear that way. It's only when I use
Winword.exe to open Word.

Any wisdom on this?

TIA

Did you try 'repairing' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821593)
Office?

Use this Utility for Windows Installer to fix your issue

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Well, this is really strange. I downloaded the fix. Started it up, and
he list showed that I had Office 2003 Standard as well as Small Office
versions installed. This didn't sound right so I closed it out and did
a little looking around. Couldn't find 2 different installations. I
put a new Word shortcut on the desktop, clicked on it and the installer
was gone! And it remains gone. I did all of this before with no
results. Do you suppose it was threatened by the possibility of running
the Installer fix? <G>

In any case, all is well and I thank you for the link to the fix.
