Windows XP home install

Anyone,
I am working on a PC from my nieghbor and I had to install a new version of
Windows XP home edition. Unfortunataly when I got to the product key screen I
realized I did not have the key. Question, I have pruschased a new copy of XP
home and am wondering if I can just put the new CD in and start over. My
guess is no but I am wondering if there are steps I can take to make it work.

Many thanks in advance. Please direct me to the correct group if you can too.

try looking under "Windows" instead of "Office"! There, that wasn't
difficult, was it?

If Windows was preinstalled on the system when it was purchased, there
should be a sticker on the tower with the PID.

If you've already used that Windows disk on another computer, no, you can't
use it again. If you haven't used it on another system, are you giving or
selling it to your neighbor? You can't use it a second time so you're going
to be out the price you paid for it.
