Word 2000 - free rotate

Following a hard drive format, word doesn't allow me to free rotate imported
clip art or pictures. It used to OK. Can anyone point me at what might have
changed?

Also: The clip art feature used to be integrated into word but now seems to
be a pop up (rather than a column on the right hand side of the page)

Before you can rotate a graphic, it must be in the drawing layer; that means
it must have a wrapping style other than In Line With Text. Click on the
graphic to display the Picture toolbar and click on the Text Wrapping button
(dog icon) to get the menu. Square is a good first choice.

I should have mentoned that I had already changed this ..... but still the
rotate option is greyed out. I can get around the problem by disassembling
the clip art, then grouping the individual components. The rotate option then
appears OK. However, I am unable to get rotate to work on any imported
pictures at all.

Folllowing the formatting of the hard drive I have reinstalled WORD and all
of the patches that I can apply from the MS Office site.

Any other thoughts?

Hi Dave,

Did you by any chance have a newer copy of Word than
the 2000 one? The free rotate of bitmap (.bmp, tif, jpg, gif, png)
was added after Word 2000. The change form the Clip Gallery
(popup) for inserting clipart to having the Clip Organizer appear
in the taskpane on the edge of the screen was also added
in a later version (although the clip gallery does have a button
on the top right of the display to turn it into a shape that looks
like a help panel, in size).

Suzanne,

I use Word a lot to create documents with pictures. Several years back (I
guess before Word 2000) I never had any trouble rotating pictures, but in
Word 2000, I have found that the Rotate option is never available, even when
the wrapping style is other than In Line with Text. I can't seem to do
anything to get the rotate option to be available. If I really need the
picture rotated, I just do it in ImageReady, but I am wondering WHY the
rotate option never works in Word anymore!!!???

Suzanne,

Sorry - you can disregard my last question to you. After reading through
the rest of the posts, it appears that this was a problem inherent to Word
2000 and the free rotate option for jpg, etc was added in later versions.
