word 2000

when i try to launch word 2000 it freezes and a window
appears alerting of a problem with USER.EXE. onclicking
close a window appears allowing me to ignore this which
results in the pc freezing completely. I have tried
changing the data file in the registry but this only
allows word to open once before the problem re occurs
any thougts on how to overcome this

Very likely to be corrupt Normal.dot file. Find the file,
rename to normaldot.old and retry Word.
