Word 2007 search and replace freezes

Hi Phil,

There are a couple of buglets in the Find/Replace feature in Beta 2 of Office 2007 that put it into a loop. After closing Word use
Start=>Search and clear out the temp files found with
~$*.*;*.tmp
before restarting Word to see if that helps.

Be sure to use the 2007 feedback tool from the link below, as well, to send your feedback directly to the MS Office 2007 Product
team.

Thanks for offering the suggestion, Bob. Unfortunately, it did not work.
Word 2007 successfully searchs for paragraph marks and replaces them with a
character like the letter "a", but when I try to search for single paragraph
marks and replace with double paragraph marks, it locks up. Your solution
did not resolve that problem

Hi Phil,

Yes, the search, for certain editing marks within the Word 2007 default file format is one of the bugs in this version of the Beta
that I alluded to in the prior message.

In a short document it will often *eventually* work to complete the search, but you will sometimes see in the Task manager two
instances of the same document shown as 'not responding' (one is the Find and Replace Dialog, the other is your document, and that
detachment probably shouldh't be happening <g>). In a longer document it may just time out.

For example,

1. Start Word 2007 with a new blank document. Don't type anything.

2. On the Home Tab of the Ribbon choose
Edit=>Replace
(or, from the keyboard Alt+H,ZN,R or ctrl+H )

3. On the replace tab use Find
^p
Replace with
^p^p
and click Replace all.

Wait about 10 minutes.

In this case you can use a work around of
Find what
^p
Replace with
^&^p
which equals replace the original with itself plus one additional paragraph mark.

As mentioned be sure to send your feedback directly to MS as well using the 2007 feedback tool below. The more reports they have of
issues, workarounds needed, and fixes the more likely an issue is to get attention, and there could be more than one variation of a
scenario and while they may have fixed one, they may not have seen the other.
