Word 2007 tab question

John

Hello:

I'm using Word 2007. Once I get to a certain page within the document (16
out of 30), when I press the tab button, the cursor tabs over to the middle
of the screen, as opposed to the usual distance. How do I correct this
problem?

Thank you,

John

Hopefully you will see a tab line at the top of the screen. Click where
you want the tab(s).

Hi. I appreciate your help. However, I don't understand what you mean. I
want it to stop tabbing over to the middle of the page. I just want it to
tab over the usual amount of space, as though I were indenting a paragraph.

On the View tab, make sure "Ruler" is selected. Move your insertion point to
the location in which the tab isn't where you'd like it to be on page 16 and
take a look at your ruler above where you see your insertion point and look
for a manual tab. It will look like an "L", a backwards "L", upside-down
"T", or upside-down "T" with a dot next to it. Place your mouse over the
manual tab, watch for the screen tip that indicates the tab type (Left,
Right, Center, Decimal) then click, hold, and drag it off the ruler to
remove it.

I suspect if John know how to set a manual tab he wouldn't be asking his
question. ;-)

It's not working. I clicked the ruler at .5 of an inch and the L appeared.
Then, I dragged the other L off of the ruler. However., when you click back
in the document, the L jumps back over to the 2.5" mark.

Along with the demo Mary posted for you, what you need to do is drag off the
tab "L" you see at the 2.5" mark when you click back into the document
rather than set another one.

Failing that, select the area you are having issues with, press Alt+O+T to
open the Tabs dialog box and click Clear All.

Gererally the default setting is at .5" and for whatever reason it sounds
like you have a tab set for the middle of the page. I would suggest doing a
little research in the Help file for how to add/delete a tab and how to edit
them. Even tho the Help files aren't perfect, they really are a good place
to start. ;-)
