Word as an attachment in Outlook causes issues

I have an issue in which opening a MS Word document as an attachment in
Outlook causes a 30mb junk file to be created in C:\winnt\temp. Over time, as
more attachments are opened, additional files are created until they consume
all space on C-drive.

MS Word is not being used as the Outlook editor. Does anyone know how to fix
this issue?
