Word continuously repaginates long documents

Twice I have opened a long word document (30 and 70 pages
long)in the past 2 days and word enters this infinite do
loop to repaginate. Eventually it times out, but then I
type something and it does it again.

Any help greatly appreciated,

Try turning off the 'same as previous' option in the
headers/footers. That worked for me in Word 2000 on XP.

Try opening via insert \ file.
