Word creates backups

Hi,

I have a problem with MS Word for Windows XP. As soon as I do ceratin
things such as press "." or use cut and paste on text material within
the same document, word starts to make several backups of the
document, preventing me to work with Word. Also, printing causes some
kind error. Any ideas? I'd be grateful.
