Word .doc Link On Website

I have several forms that were created in Word on my
Intranet.

The problem that I am having is that sometimes it asks for
a user name and password when you click the link to
the .doc.

Any idea why this happens?

That's an old problem that all users of MSOffice 2000 that have not installed all Office service packs will have

I have the exact same problem with Word document on my
Intranet. I have been following this problem for over four
months and only found that it asked for user name and
password at the place where the web server is physically
located. So my guess is it might have something to do with
the network architecture.

If you have any new discovery, please email me at

Well, you don't say what version of word, but there is a bug in word 2000
that causes this. Each visitor must install at least Office/Word SR-1 to
overcome this problem.

I am having a similar problem. My Word doc opens in the
browser, but when I try to close it and return to the web
site, my browswer locks up. It asks for the password and
tells me that "connect to www.----.com" is not
responding".

Has anyone heard of this happening?
