Word Document Edits don't appear in PowerPoint

After opening and editing a Word document inserted into
PowerPoint - the edits do not show up when returning back
to the PP presentation. Re-opening the Word document shows
the edits are still in place. This is happening on two
entirely different independent PCs running PowerPoint 2000
on Windows 2000. The problem doesn't seem to occur on our
office networked PCs. Any suggestions?

How were the Word documents inserted into PPT? (I'm trying to find out if
you have an embedded Word object or a linked one.)
