I received an attachment but can not open it --- error reads "invalid path or
file name" how do I open the file. I tried saving it to my hard drive and
renaming the file but...still can't open.

Not your fault--the sender has to send it again in a format you can open. Or
he sent you a shortcut to a file on his own computer by mistake.
