Typically its either a temporary document that Word creates when you create,
edit or open a document which should disappear when you close the document
or it a corrupted document, you may be better asking this question in one of
the Word Newsgroups though

Usually that document has a alphanumeric name and a .tmp extension. It was a
document that corrupted or that Windows tried to recover.
If it appears normally with a proper filename and a .doc extension, it could
mean the document is open.
