Using WORD 2000 on machine with Windows XP, NTFS file system. Use an older
WIN98 machine FAT32 for Data Storage that is also accessed by another WIN98
machine. When using WORD or EXCEL for a file on the "server", cannot save
the file with a changed file name. Can save OK with same file name.
Alternatively can save on the XP system harddrive with newname and then save
on "server" with newname.

Did you install Windows update KB885250 "MS05-011: Vulnerability
in server message block could allow remote code execution" on the
WinXP computer? This update is available as an individual update
for Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and is included in Update Rollup
1 for Windows 2000. You can uninstall KB885250 in Start |
Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, or you can obtain a hotfix
from Microsoft Product Support. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=895900 "You cannot save a file
from your Windows XP-based or Windows 2000-based computer to a
shared folder on a file server" for more information.

Garfield-n-odie. Thank you very much for the prompt and accurate reply. Was
able to remove KB885250 easily following your detailed instructions. For us
less sophisticated end users adding that one needs to check the box at the
top of the Add/remove hardware window to "show all updates" and the update to
be removed is under Windows XP. If it was as easy and apparent on how to
rate a reply I would clearly give you a 10 out of 10. Thanks again.
