Word files not opening

B

After erasing something, I have a problem with Word (and Excel). When I go
to open an existing file, I get the message "File not available" and it won't
open. I was able to import a file (the same one I was trying to open before)
and work with it. But after saving it both to My Documents and elsewhere, I
could not open again and the same message came up. When I close Word, I get
a message that "File Nomal already exists, do you want to replace it."
Whether I say no or yes, the same question comes up every time I close Word.
I think a file is missing. I have done the reloading of Office and detect
and repair on Word, but this did not help. I have Windows XP, Office 2000.
Anyone have any idea what is wrong and how to fix it. Other programs like
Outlook, Frontpage, Quickbooks are all working ok.
Thanks

Do you have Acrobat 7? It's add-in causes a few problems. Either remove the
add-in, or use the Plan C method at
http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adobe_acrobat_toolbar.htm to load it only
when required.

If you have Norton AV, uncheck its office plug-in.

See also http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm and attend
to the problems described in
