Word in IE differs from plain Word

I use html links to word docs that contain includepicture
links, the links appear to be broken if the documents are
opened in Word within an IE instance.
In Word the includepicture links work fine but if those
same documents are opened in word in an IE instance the
links no longer work.

Can I change the references in my html page so that they
open with word instead of word within IE?

Is there anything else I can do about it?

This is a security issue. A Word document opened in the browser is assumed
to come from a website and is therefore insecure. As a result, it's
prevented from doing risky things, eg running code or activating embedded
links. Otherwise it would always be unsafe to open a Word document from a
website. (Whether it is ever safe is another question...)

Hi Karel

You can tell Windows that when you click a link on a webpage, you want
Word documents to open in Word instead of in the Word plug-in within
Internet Explorer. To do this, in Windows Explorer (not Internet
Explorer), Tools > Folder Options. On the File Types tab, find the entry
for DOC. Click Advanced and *un-tick* Browse in same window.

Hope this helps.
