Word is adding pages

I have a document that is approximately 60 pages. When I opened it this
morning, 3000 - plus blank pages were added before I stopped it. What have I
done? And how do I delete the pages?

This is often a sign that the document structure is damaged. If you use
Insert/File to bring the document into a new document, does it behave
correctly? You'd need to recreate the margins, and the last section's headers
and footers...
