You can specify the file format via OnyX, if I recall correctly.

Snapz Pro puts the file format choice right in front of you, which for some
of my work is an advantage. <=[Further attempt to justify my purchase.]

Hi Bob:

No, I use Grab also. Clive has been trying to talk me out of it, but using
his method I run out of fingers...

The only problem I have not yet hunted down (too lazy) is how to get screen
shots in something other than TIFF. I know there's a way, I just haven't
looked it up yet...

Hi John -- Sorry to wake you :)

That's one of Grab's limitations, unfortunately -- it only saves as TIFF. In
fact, the only Prefs it offers is with regard to pointer appearance. You
have to open the TIFF in another app to save in a different format, but
Preview will the job.

Hi Jeff;

Hello Bob,

Grab functions can be accessed even without launching the
program fro the most part, right?
I've always had a heckuva time remembering the keyboard
combinations. Control+Shift+Command+ ... wha? ;-P

Jeff
My understanding is that OS X uses the basic Grab engine for screen shots,
but if you actually run the app there are more features, such as Timed shots
& if you use a dragging method it provides a tip box with dimensions. You
also can save the shot directly as a TIFF -- I've yet to find a way to save
a keystroked screen shot without having to paste into another app.

Like I said though, Grab certainly doesn't compete with some of the others,
but it's free :)

....Forgot to mention -- I also use a shareware called CaptureMe from
Chimoosoft which allows you to set transparency for the shot to be taken &
provides for saving the shot in either of 5 formats.
