word shutting down

Marky

I am having a problem with Word document closing down 2-3
minutes into using it.
I get the following window.
"Microsoft visualC++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error
Program c/Programfiles/microsoftoffice10/winword.exe

Abnormal program termination."

This is followed with an "ok" box to click, and it is
impossible to continue and then when I click the bosx
Word document closes and everything is lost.
Please can anyone help

Possibly a corrupt normal template. Try renaming the
normal template in c:\documents and settings\[username]
\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

(There might be a tilde file called ~normal.dot in the
same directory - delete it first before renaming.)

Then do a search for normal.dot in c:\ and all
subdirectories. Delete all instances that come up.

Now start Word and it will recreate a clean normal
template. See how it goes. If all is well, then you can
copy your macros, etc. from the renamed normal template
into the new one.

If you are working off a network, you will also need to
blow out all of the normal templates in your profile
stored on the network before you log out and back in
again; otherwise the old corrupt normal template will
override all of the work you just accomplished.

Good luck.
