Word template does not open to defaults

When using a word template in Outlook, the template opens,
but the defaults are the original defaults of the template.

I made several changes to the template. If I open just
the template in Word, the changes are there. But, when I
open the template through outlook, the changes are not
there.

I have about 60 letters to send and this is causing me to
go bald. Please help.
