word won't give me a blank doc

Whenever I open word...(2000) it brings up a document my
son did for homework awhile ago. When ever I click to get
a blank document it brings the same doc up. I've tried
deleting the file, deleting the text leaving a blank
screen and saving that, nothing seems to get rid of it.
What can I do?
