word wrap in the middle of superscript

S

stickleback

I am using units that require superscripts (e.g., 9.5 m^3 sec^-^1, where ^
denotes a superscript for the character following). If the string appears at
the end of a line Word will sometimes wrap in the middle of the superscript.
I understand how to insert a hard space to ensure the wrap does not occur at
the space, but I don't know how to keep the "split" from occurring in the
middle of the superscript. In the example above, I am getting a split
between - and 1.

thanks for any help!

Use a non-breaking hyphen. Ctrl+Shift+_. You can also insert this from
Insert - Symbol - Special Characters.
