Word XP Strong Encryption Format

I have be tasked with reviewing the strength of 'strong' encryption in
Word XP (and whether it is suitable for our needs).

Note that what I am interested in is the 'strong', CAPI version used in
Office XP, not the Office 97 version (I am aware of its weaknesses).

Does anyone know if it uses a standard wrapper (like PKCS #7 or 12) or
is it home-grown? Is there any documentation on it for security review?

Any information would be appreciated.
