Word's width limitation question

I'm using Word 2002/Win 98. Typing in a table format is
not working anymore due to 3 of the columns expanding to
5" wide so before I start copying the text into an Excel
spreadsheet, I wanted to know if there was a possibility
to keep this document in Word.

Word. Try this: Click in the table, then click on Table
| Table Properties | Table tab | Preferred width: 6.5" |
Options | uncheck the "Automatically resize to fit
contents" box | OK | OK. At this point, you should be
able to see all of the columns on the page, and you can
readjust the columns to the desired widths.
