Work backwards from finish date

I have set my calanders to 24 hours. I have a column for duration, start
date, finish date. I am growing a product. I would like to put in the date I
need the product and have the planting date. When I put in a duration of 28
days and a finish date of 8/26 I keep getting the start date of either august
17th or july 17th depending on the different changes I make. I do not know
what phrase to search to learn how to do this correct.

Perhaps this will help... Project/Project Information...
Change the scheduling option in the "Schedule From" drop down to "Project
Finish Date".
Post a project finish date in the Finish Date box -- example October 26, 2007.
Select a calendar, click OK.

One of the tasks in your project would be the last milestone ... "Project
Complete" which becomes linked to the tasks. Note that everything will be
scheduled to start "As Late As Possible."

Be careful when using this approach, most people forget there is no
opportunity for schedule padding (margin) when using this approach.

I had set up the project the way you suggested before I posted with the
exception of the last milestone. Perhaps I am going about this all wrong. I
have never used this program before. I have made a seperate project for each
product. I have listed each week the amount of product I need in a notes file
and have duration, start finish. What I want to do is have a calander that
shows the product in the ground and what is due in the future. I want to
connect them finish to start to I can program the use of the fields.

I was able at one point to get it to work, but for some reason, the program
erased half the data I had inserted, so I did not save and reopened the file
and cannot remmeber how I got it to work. But thank you very much for the
advise.

Jim,

I often use the SF type, to set a date back from a known end date. When I
have used the start as late as possible, it sets all the tasks in the
sequence as late as possible. Using the SF link type allows me to have the
schedule operating as normal (As soon as possible) but then setting any tasks
that need to be done in sufficient time to meet an end date with a SF link.

Regards
