work & overtime work

I'm having a brain cramp trying to understand overtime work. If I have a
resource assigned to a 24 hr task over 3 days and that resources works 30 hrs
over 3 days then the resource has worked 30 hrs. Assuming that I want to
keep track of overtime work, should I enter that time for the resource as 24
hrs work and 6 hrs overtime work....or 30 hrs work and 6 hrs overtime work?

What affects does overtime work have?

Hello Jesse,

If you are entering Actual Work and Actual Overtime Work in the Task
Usage or Resource Usage view, enter 8 hours in the Actual Work row, 2
hours in the Actual Overtime row. The Actual Work row will update to
show 10 hours on that day.

When you enter Actual Overtime, Project will remove the total amount of
actual work (10 hours) from the original projected work. So, you
originally had a 3-day duration task with 8 hours of work scheduled per
day. When you enter in the 8 hours plus 2 hours overtime on day 1,
Project will assume that your original amount of work is still correct.
It will schedule 8 hours on day 2, but drop the amount of scheduled work
to 6 hours on day 3. The duration will drop from 3 days to 2.75 days
and the task will be scheduled to end at 3:00 pm on day 3. If you book
an additional 10 hours (8 regular, 2 OT) on day 2, project will again
assume the total work is still correct and update the amount of work
scheduled on day 3 to 4 hours and the task will be scheduled to end at
12:00 pm. If you add the final 10 hours (8 regular, 2 OT) to day 3,
Project will assume the task is complete. The duration will update back
to 3 days but your resource will have worked more hours (6 hours OT) in
the original duration.
