Crashes of this type are often caused by a corrupt template or add-in. Start
Word from the Windows start > run menu option with the command Winword /a
and see if the problem remains. If it is clear, then rename your normal.dot
template to oldnormal.dot, remove any add-in templates from the word and
office startup folders, and if running Norton AV, uncheck its office plug-in
option. Finally the crashes will have left behind all kinds of junk on your
hard drive that will make matters worse. See
