WSS Configuration

I am trying to set up an evaluation copy of Project Server 2003, on an
existing server - that is, it has SQL and IIS installed and a web app
"occupying" the "Default Web Site".

I am following the "Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 Single Computer
Installation Guide"

So far, I have installed SQL Server, created logins for Project Server and
WSS, configured IIS (needed no modification), installed WSS, completed
"Configure Administrative Virtual Server" (connected to the SQL database)
and am now at "Virtual Server Configuration"

According to the instructions, at this point :

- Click "Extend or upgrade Virtual Server"
- On the Virtual Server list page, select Default Web Site or another Web
site if you created one for this purpose.

Since I do not wish to modify the "Default Web site", I simply created a
new site, pointing it at an "empty" folder, and allowing "read", "run
scripts"
and "execute", but it results in :

"The Web site creation wizard did not complete successfully

The process cannot access the file because it is in use by another process"

My preliminary research indicates that this may not work at all without
having a separate server, but I wondered if anyone has been successful in
getting this to work

Any help greatly appreciated

JM

Jim:

The site should be set to scripts only. Also, did you define a port for the
new site? The error sounds more like the process is trying to install to the
default site.

Jim,

I would also create a new application in IIS for the application that is
running in the default application. I would configure it as the default is
currently configured, including any virtual directories. Then I would
disable the default application.

Many Thanks for your help - but I have given up the ghost and installed on a
new server
