WSS document library document identifyer

Is there any way to identify whether there is a document in a document
library folder with a WSS site?

we have multpile folders and the Project managers are getting tired of
searching for docs in folders, and finding empty folders.

Can something be done to show if there are docs in a folder at first glance?

Can this be done?
