XP Professional upgrade with Publisher or without it?

Jim Ward

I bought a Gateway 1000 Performance system about 3 years
ago. It has a Millenium (ME) operating system and
microsoft Windows 2000.
I recently bought an Microsoft Office XP Professional
upgrade because the Millenium operating system is so
unstable and keeps freezing (at least 10 times per day).
I thought the new system (XP Professional upgrade) came
with an upgrade to Publisher 2000. Gateway assert
Publisher 2002 is in the upgrade even though it does not
mention it on the package nor in the instruction booklet
that came with it.
Is Publisher 2002 ( which I desparately need) in the
upgrade or not.

Publisher 2002 does not come in any current retail versions of Office XP,
upgrade or otherwise. However, if you purchased this copy of Office XP
Professional in the last few weeks, you are eligible to a free copy of
Office 2003 Professional when it hits the streets on October 21. Office
2003 Professional does come with Publisher.

You are talking about different critters here.

Believe me when I tell you that you did not buy a new Gateway with both
Window ME and Windows 2000. (Gateway doesn't sell dual-booting systems.
You're on your own to do that.) Do you mean you had Windows ME with Office
2000?

Upgrading to Office 2002 would not correct the instability of Windows ME. (I
HATED that OS. What a mistake!) Depending on what you bought from Gateway,
you may or may not have Publisher. I know that when Office Small Business is
pre-installed on new systems, you get Publisher. "Specifically" what did you
purchase recently?
