~$ZWDAddin.dot

Every time I open up MS Word XP, I see a message that the add-in template
is not valid (C:\...\Startup\~$ZWDAddin.dot). It doesn't seem to be causing
a problem, but it's annoying. I read somewhere that this is connected to
DataViz (Documents to Go) and the solution was to delete it from Startup.
But I don't see it in Startup, and I don't know how to get rid of it. When I
look in MS Word's Templates and Add-Ins window, I see this on the list of
Global templates and add-ins.But it's not checked off. If I highlight it,
there doesn't seem to be a way to delete it. Any ideas?

When you look in Word's Templates and Add-ins window, select the template.
You should see the full path towards the bottom of the dialog.

Do NOT delete the file until you find out what is the real problem,
otherwise, you could end up with more errors.
Instead, I would see how the critter is used by DataViz, then, if necessary,
uninstall and re-install DataViz.

Thanks. That led me to find the solution. In Word, the complication was that
there was a DVZWAddin that was checked off, but there was also the unchecked
one I was writing about. When highlighted, they both had the same path. This
is a new
laptop, and I had installed Word first and got that error message. I thought
it
would clear up once I installed DataViz (Documents to Go), but it didn't.
Because the problem preceded the installation of DataViz on this computer,
it didn't seem to make sense to uninstall it. But after seeing your post, I
checked out the DataViz web site--which of course I should have done in the
first place, except I thought it was a Word issue. I found out that the file
in question is a temp file for the real one, so I deleted it. That hung up
Word, but a reboot seems to have resolved it. The DVZWAddin.dot is necessary
for running the Documents to Go programs on my Palm. For some reason the
temp file got stuck there. I hope.
