could not synchronize record: Calendar Item

Okay been having this problem ever since 12.1.3 was launched months ago for Entourage 2008. Lots of people across forums complaining about this. Due to the Error Code -18576 being a typical overly generic error (that of course itself isn't specific so its not in any Microsoft error message tables) there seems to be confusion over its fix. Some confuse with same error code that is related to shared calendars. I have no shared calendars. Everything worked GREAT until 12.1.3 and I cannot roll back to 12.1.2. So when is Microsoft going to fix this bug thats been out there for months? Not an unreasonable question. MVP's on multiple forums back in October claimed Microsoft is working on this. Well they came up with 12.1.3 patch in only 3 weeks when 12.1.2 bugs surfaced. So why is this one being ignored? HELP!

FYI The error occurs for ANY new or modified events being initiated to
calendar from within Entourage 2008.

I suspect that the problem is fixed in 12.1.4...

I'm not familiar with this problem and haven't seen any other reports
specific to calendar events and 12.1.3.

What is preventing you from rolling back to 12.1.2 if 12.1.3 has broken
functionality for you?

Are you connecting to a front-end Outlook Web Access (OWA) server or a
direct back-end Exchange Server address? Have you tried switching the
address to see if that impacts anything?

You need to look a little deeper on the internet. It's out there, everywhere. Another MVP recommended rolling back to 12.1.2 and that seemed to work for many people. I can't roll back due to corporate mandates to stay with latest update. I am on 12.1.4 and that didn't help. Connecting direct to exchange server. Not sure what you mean by switching the address of the server. I only have one address... its DNS name. That same MVP said (2 months ago) that this problem was known by Microsoft and a fix was being developed, and (as of early October) Microsoft had only known about the problem for 2-3 weeks, so he anticipated a patch (perhaps 12.1.5?) once regression testing and due diligence was performed. Still waiting. Still frustrated.

I searched Google with "18576 Entourage 12.1.3 calendar". That found 10
hits, one of which was your post, but nothing else described the problem
you're describing.

If this is indeed as wide spread as you're saying then show me some
posts that we can take to MacBU and investigate.

Otherwise, I can only believe that this problem is unique to your
situation. Unfortunately, if you can't downgrade to test then that's not
leaving many options for troubleshooting.

As for the two servers I mentioned:

Your account resides on a single Exchange Server, which probably holds
many accounts. This is called a "back-end" server.

If your company offers webmail access to your account then that's called
an Outlook Web Access (OWA) server, which is called a "front-end"
server. This server acts as an intermediary between the Internet and
your back-end server.

Entourage can connect to either server, however, you should connect to
your back-end server if your computer is on the same network (within the
same company) as your Exchange Server.

Many folks set up their laptops to connect to their company's OWA server
so that they can work inside and outside their company network. That may
work well outside but can have problems inside.

I would suggest you first make sure this problem is not with your
current identity. That's easy to test. Select Entourage --> Switch
Identity... and create a new identity (a new Database). Then set up your
account again and see if the problem continues.

If you're able to test your Exchange account on a different Mac
altogether then that would be useful to troubleshoot as well.

Hope this helps!

12.1.5 did not fix the problem. Sadly, the 18576 error message appears to have multiple causes and no drill down information at all. Doesn't even identify which calendar events are failing to sync (although it appears any that are created wholly within Entourage 2008 are the ones that fail to sync). Invites that come down from exchange and are accepted seem to be okay. But this is only an assumption given there is no details beyond the generic error message.

That person's problem is not the same as yours. He, "Sorcer2008", is
having problems *sending* and you're reporting an error message about
synchronizing a calendar event. His report says nothing about the error
code you mentioned.

The response Corentin [MVP] gave the the second person "dhushon", who
injected his own personal details into that thread, applies to the
-17997 error message. That was a known issue and that has been fixed.
Also I just downloaded 12.1.5 udpate. Will see if this update
resolves the problem you say doesn't exist.

I have not said your problem doesn't exist. I've only said that I've not
seen any other reports similar to yours and so far you have not shown me
this is as wide spread as you've stated. If we can show MacBU this is a
widespread problem then we can ask them to investigate.
As a former MCSE, I know very well the differences between OWA and
Exchange Server MAPI clients and servers.

I too am an MCSE but I recall nothing about Exchange in the learning
curriculum or the tests. If you feel I'm being condescending or
patronizing then I apologize, however, I don't know you and I don't know
your level of expertise. These newsgroups have a wide range of expertise.

I've offered a few things to help troubleshoot your problem. Have you
tried those yet?

I too am having a problem both with new calendar invites as well as in responding to invites. Target is Exchange 2003sp2 ... running the new 12.1.3 upgrade (everything worked fine in 12.1.2).... get 2 errors:

"Could not synchronize record: Calendar Item to Exchange server: EMC Corp Email" Error -18576

Not sure what you're referring to. dhushon clearly is referencing 18576 with the exact same error message (see above excerpt) that I am having.

Well, it is quite apparent there's no use pursuing this in this forum. You seem to be going through great pains to argue that the problem I am having is my own and no one else's. Yes I created my identify over again to no avail. Did that in early November.

Good luck in the future. Time for Open Office, POP3, and SMTP... and avoidance of Entourage at least on my part. The headache of dealing with Microsoft has followed me to Mac platform. This is nonsense.
