Error: - 3253 Connection to the server failed or was dropped.

I

info

I have a .Mac IMAP mail account and access this normally at work over
a LAN connected to a broadband ADSL router using Entourage 2004
(v11.2.5) on A G5 PowerMac OSX 10.4.8. I also connect to this account
at home using a broadband ADSL route and the same software and OS but
on an Intel iMac G5. Recently, Entourage at work has stopped allowing
me to send email, although I can receive, and I get the error
"Connection to the server failed or was dropped." "Error: -3253".
However I am able to send and receive email fine at home.

I take it this means there is a problem with the internet connection
between my mil client and the sending smtp server or the ISP has
changed some router/firewall configuration? I have not changed any
account setting on the Entourage app at work.

Help!

Updating this issue....

At work I've updated to OSX10.4.9 and Entourage 2004 11.3.3 (061214)
and I'm still getting ther same error when sending mail (can receive
fine). I've also set up the same account details on an unused copy of
Entourage on another mac at work and can send and receive fine. I can
also send and reveive fine using Apple Mail on the Mac with the
problematic copy of Entourage.

Updating this issue.... again

I've had the problem sorted by phone support to Microsoft.

If you can send and receive using Apple mail using the same email
account settings, do this (basically import the functioning Apple Mail
settings as follows...)

In entourage>tools>accounts, delete the IMAP account that you can't
send from and quit (All your mail is stored on the server, but back-up
if you so wish).

Relaunch Entourage and File>Import....
Select 'Import information from a program' NEXT
Select 'Apple Mail' NEXT
Select 'Accounts' only NEXT
Then hit finish.

You'll get your account inboxes etc back as they were and should be
able to send and receive.

Nice! This is new to me. Thanks for sharing.
