0.02 hrs extra

We are tracking general information about a project in a separate file where
there are no resources and therefore no assignments. When we enter values
into actual work on a task, project is occassionally adding an additional
0.02 hrs to the entry. It is doing it differently on different tasks and is
not included in the summary. Does anyone have insight into this?

Example:
Summary Task 1
Sub Task A
Sub TAsk B

enter 2 hours into actual on sub task A is ok, but not 4 - it makes that 4.02.
enter 4 hours into actual on sub task B is ok, but not 2 - it makes that 2.02.
when both tasks have values with 0.02 extra, Summary Task reads 6.02 total.

thanks in advanced for help

Hi Byron,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Beware of mixing Work (usually in man-hours) with Duration. I suspect
you're entering Work and observing the Duration of the task. You could also
have a conflict between calendars which define the working hours, and the
Default calendar values that Project uses to interpret the data you enter.
You might like to see FAQ Item: 5. Default Working Hours.

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Thanks Mike. I will take a look at that information.

However, to be specific, the value that I see changing is the exact value
that I just entered. We were entering values for Actual Work on a task, and
when leaving the cell that we were in, it changes to the value + 0.02. It
seems odd that there would be a setting that would add that additional value
to a value I had just entered.

Anyway, thanks for the input. If anyone else has seen this exact scenario,
your input would also be appreciated.

Thanks,
Byron

Just guessing here, but as far as Project is concerned work is defined the
total amount of resource effort applied over time and so it doesn't exist in
the absence of resources to perform it. Since your resource data table is
blank I suspect there is a very small but non-zero floating point value in
some field that is usually involved in the work calculations that
corresponds to 1 minute of work after rounding. A field containing a
floating point 0 is not equal to a null value empty field. Does it really
make enough of a difference to worry about it?
