100% complete task won't accept remaining work

Hello

We have a task with a number of assignments on it, all completed. In
reality the task is incomplete by one of the resources so we wish to add in
some remaining work. On doing so, the remaining work is immediately
converted into actual work and the task is retained at 100% complete.

Can anyone offer any explanation for this behaviour?

Thanks

Stuart.

Can you explain the exact steps you are following to get this to
happen? I have setup a sample on my machine and cannot replicate your
issue.

Hi StuWolf,

I think I understand your issue. It happened to me before, until I
understood how this works.

You say the task is incomplete, so that implies you need to PLAN for more
days to complete the task. In this case you have to change the Duration or
Work cell to reflect this. When you do that, the %complete will change from
100% to a lower value based on the calculation Duration/Actual Duration.

Consequently, the remaining work is adjusted by Work (new planned work as
entered) minus Actual Work (already there).

The way you are doing it by changing the remaning work, MSProject assumes
that you have a completed task that you want to address an actual reporting
issue with a completed task.

Hope this helps,
