2 characters 1 keystroke

When I enter the "period" key I get this ., and it happens in MS word 97 and
email. This just started a few days ago and I did a virus and adaware scan
that found nothing. The same thing happens when I enter the nine 89 and
bracket *(
I am getting tired of deleting the extra characters, what do have to do to
to stop getting 2 characters when I enter one keystroke?

It sounds like a hardware problem: in both cases your problem characters are
adjacent keys (do you get it with <> too ?) Try using a different keyboard
(or plug your keyboard into another computer) and see if the problem
persists.
