2000,2002,2003 font size?

O

OhMarty

As a member of PSPP, we receive Publisher files by email without always
knowing the version in which they were created. If they are 2002 files and
we open them in 2003, the font sizes change (usually larger). Is there
anyway to have 2003 open files so that the font sizes open as originally
created? Without having a printed copy of the original file, we have no way
of knowing what has changed. Can anyone help?

2002 -> 2003 font sizes will not change. They are the same file
version/format. The only reason you would see a difference is because you
are getting some sort of font substitution because you don't share the same
fonts that the user has used.

2000 -> 2003 will have some formatting loss.

Brian, I beg you pardon, but they do change. I admit that they shouldn't, but the size is changing and it is really bothersome and for us, sometimes expensive, as we sometimes have to rerun a printing job. There is no conflict if we happen to open the file in the original version.

Any further help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

We are unaware of any cases of formatting change between Publisher 2002 and
Publisher 2003. Can you please triple-check the originating version of
Publisher for this issue?
Also, what OS are you running?

Never seen or heard of the problem.
Technically I cannot see how it could happen.

I hear and see what you are saying, and am sure you are of sane mind, and
there is an issue you have you are seeing, but it is not caused by Publisher
2002 or 2003.

When you say "the font sizes change (usually larger). " does the Text Frame
now over flow or if smaller more space in the Text Frame?

I wonder if this could be caused by a corrupt font folder.

Which version of Windows are you using???

Thanks everyone for your help. I am using Windows 2000 Pro. The conditions I described are occurring, but it is occurring with word art, not the fonts. Sorry! Nevertheless, the problems it causes are irritating and frustrating.

We are a registered PSPP member and will contact them if we can't figure it out on this end.

OhMarty, problem easily solved. Look, the Office WordArt compared to the previous WordArt is a dog in every way and a nightmare for offset printing. I am not surprised you are having problems.

What I do is paste the WordArt as a PICTURE and end of story. Get your customer to copy the WordArt to the Clipboard, then go menu edit and select Paste Special > Paste as Picture and select the PNG format. Your problems will be over.
I think the PNG format is only available in Publisher 2003, so check.

Now that I am cutting down on my work, I will have more time to do things, and I think I should really put an instruction sheet together that you can hand to customers who want to bring in Publisher files. Hopefully most of them will upgrade reasonably quickly to Publisher 2003, which is a quantum leap forward (even without the defaults). Thankfully Brian organised me a pre-release version to try and I am more than happy to highly recommend Publisher 2003. Sure, it has some dog features like the Office WordArt, but those issues are easily overcome if you know how. Every program has dog features, but there are not many in Pub 2003.

Well Marty, THIS is a known issue with Publisher 2000 -> Publisher
2002/2003. There is a WordArt fix that you can install from the PSPP website
that addresses this issue. There will not be a problem opening files with
WordArt in Publisher 2003 that were created in Publisher 2002 though.

Here is the link to the fix:
