About Microsoft Font Validator

To all,

I am trying to locate the Microsoft Font Validator.

Background story .....

I was looking for information regarding fonts, and I landed at the
following page -

http://www.microsoft.com/typography/FontValidator.mspx

The page is about Microsoft Font Validator, and it's telling me that
in order to obtain the Microsoft Font Validator I have to join a group
called Microsoft Font Validator Community. So I cliked on it and
applied to join, fill in all the things that I'm supposed to filled
in, clicked on all the button that I'm supposed to ..... and finally,
I landed at the following page -

http://groups.msn.com/MicrosoftFontValidatorCommunity/_submitjoin.msnw

which tells me
"Hmmm, We Can't Find that Page...
The page you're looking for might have been moved or
deleted.
Or, perhaps the Web address is misspelled?"

And there is no way to go forward.

So, what do I do now?

Can anyone please tell me how to locate the Microsoft Font Validator
and/or the Microsoft Font Validator Community?

As a result of a little bit of a search during which I came across many
instances of the same problem that you have encountered, I came across the
following:

I happened to find the download link, if you simply want the tool, just
use the following URL to download it directly:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/e/9/fe9795a3-756e-4f60-8989-03dc9870f189/FontValSetup.msi

It requires .NET framework to be installed prior to install the tool,
the report is in xml format, it analyzes the font in very detail.

What I saw when I went to
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/developers/validator/ was a link to
http://groups.msn.com/MicrosoftFontValidatorCommunity which seemed to want
me to have a .Net Passport. As it happens, I already have a .Net Passport,
but there was no provision for entering my existing username and password;
instead it wanted me to create a new one.

There's a thread about this at http://typophile.com/node/28034. From
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/links/news.aspx?NID=1500 it appears that
the Font Validator was released in 2002, so it may not be too surprising
that the "community" is languishing.

As far as I can tell, there are three versions of the "Font Validator"
available. It must be one of the longest MS beta test programs _e_v_e_r_.
The latest seems to be 1.0.1286, released 16 July, 2003. (The original
release and one other make up the three available versions).

To get one of these, you have to join "the community", if I recall
correctly. That requires creating a "Live ID".

I have the .Net Passport, and I use my MSN Live account at hotmail.com
to apply to join. Still, I end up getting that ""Hmmm, We Can't Find
that Page... " error message at this page --

through your unique .NET Passport. We use your .NET Passport sign-in name
and password to identify you. " &c.

Would you mind gimme the url for that page?

For some reasons, no matter how many times I tried, I got that
"Hmm.... " error.

Yes, I got the software, thanks all for that, but it doesn't hurt to
join the community, does it?
