Is the database location being set up using code, for example VBA code
that is run from an Access form? If so, you will almost certainly have
to find that code and modify it. Of course, you may not be able to tell
whether this is the case or not.
Otherwise, what I would probably do is
a. open the Word document. Assuming that you see the dialog box where
it says it cannot find the data source and offers two buttons, "Find
Data Source" and "Options", click "Options", then click "Remove
data/header source. Although that will remove the data source and any
sort/filter options, all the mail merge fields etc. will still be there
in your document.
b. Once the document has opened, on the Mailings tab, click Start Mail
Merge, then make sure Normal Word Document is selected.
c. Select the merge document type you actually need.
d. reselect the data source. If you still cannot connect, there really
is a problem and perhaps we can have a look. However, if you can, then
save and close the document, and try to reopen it again to ensure that
Word still finds the data source.
