Access privileges can not be given

When transferring files from one computer that had windows xp to another
computer with vista, some files came up with this message and I cannot open
the files. Also, the file names are in green instead of blue indicating that
I can't open them. I've tried to allow permission by right clicking and going
under Sharing. I would click onto Share this folder ... , and then the
computer would be doing something like it was transfering files for about
5-10 minutes but this doesn't do anything. Not sure what to do and I really
need access to these files.

This is a Vista issue. I found this on a forum, not sure if it will help. If not
ask your question on a Vista forum

Step by step instruction on how to take ownership of a folder

Run CMD (as administrator) and type: takeown [path] /f <filename or folder>

OR

- Right-click the file/folder you want to own, click properties
- Click Security Tab
- Click Advanced
- Click the Owner Tab
- Click Edit
- Select the Administrators group from the list
- Click OK
- Click OK
- Click OK
You have now taken 'Ownership' of the file and you can close the property

Windows

Now again
1) Right-click on the file
2) Select Properties
3) Go to the Security tab again, click the Advanced button
4) Now Press Edit, then double-click 'Administrators' in the list and tick
the 'allow' box for 'Full control'
You have now taken 'Full control' of file
