AccessWeb and runtime

A

Alex

I just sent a runtime app to someone who tried to install it. She was
prompted to download Accessweb first? I have no idea what this is, why it
told her she needed to download it and how this affects my runtime. Anyone
have any thoughts on it?

Hi Alex

Was the download URL really the Access Web (http://www.mvps.org/access) or
was it Microsoft Office Update (http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate)?

Access Runtime installs a cut-down version of Access and, like any Office
program installation, it offers to go and visit the OfficeUpdate site to
check for any service packs or other updates. This is normal. There is no
compulsory requirement to download and install any updates.

I see there is a folder off the OFFICE11 folder on my PC named AccessWeb -
wonder if the message might be referring to that? The full path is ...

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\AccessWeb

We'll probably never know without the exact text of the error message.

Thanks Graham. I believe it was the microsoft website and not the other one.
I don't think that this person had access at all on their computer - so this
was something that I should include when I bundle up the runtime? I'm not
sure i understand exactly what it is?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Alex

I don't think there is any way to include or exclude it - it's just part of
the installation process.

You just need to advise the person doing the installation whether to click
"Yes" or "No". I should think "No" would be more appropriate and less
confusing.

Ok - it sounds like they shouldn't need it to get the runtime to work.

i think it might be time to just go buy a cheap cpu with nothing but windows
on it to test out some of this stuff.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\AccessWeb

sample XSL transforms that come with Access

I also wondered about the Office Web Components - one of the installation
options was 'download Office Web Components' ????

Thanks David. I agree the Office Web Components seem a strong possibility.

I can't say, Alex. Without the exact wording of the message, we can only
guess.
