Activity Plans for BAU or Support type activities

Hi all,

Our PS 2007 implementation is currently being used to simply(!) track time
and effort at a high level. We have many teams that have regular ongoing
activities to assign time to...such as IT support issues etc. Using Project
to set up project plans to capture this time against tasks does not seem to
fit as a best solution, as these tasks do not have end dates, and it is not
possible to accurately estimate work or resources required as much of the
work is reactive to unforeseen problems.

I have looked into Activity Plans as an alternative way of capturing this
time, but seem to only be able to assign one resource per task line, and am
also not sure if I can assign enterprise level fields, including custom
field, data to them.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I would recommend that you create one or more projects that are similar to
the Administrative project feature found previously in Project Server 2003.
This would allow each team to have their own support tasks, without
cluttering up the My Timesheet page with everyone's support tasks. Refer to
the following FAQ on this subject:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com...ledgeBase/RegularProjectLikeAdminProject.aspx

Even though the FAQ refers to Project Server 2003, you can use this approach
with Project Server 2007 as well. Hope this helps.
