actual hours worked and percentage complete

Please can someone advise?
We're running Project Pro 2002 and Server, and our users are updating
their tasks via PWA.
OK - so we've estimated that a task is going to take 10 hours, but it
actually takes 5. The resource enters 5 hours on the timesheet on PWA
and the PM accepts the update. And of course the plan displays that it
is 50% complete. When the PM changes the % complete to 100% the hours
worked change to 10 hours!
How can we get round this please?
Many thanks

Although we go through PS Pro to update Actual Work rather than the web
timecard, we have the same situation. We have found that changing the
Remaining Duration to 0. Note that this does change Work to equal Actual
Work.

In a situation like this, I would recommend that your team member set the
Remaining Work value to 0 hours for this task in PWA. If you are going to
use the method of tracking progress, then I recommend as a "best practice"
that you teach your team members to submit the following each week to their
project manager:

1. The actual hours worked, preferably on the day the work was actually
performed
2. Their Remaining Work estimate (if their estimate differs from the number
calculated in PWA)
3. A task Note (for any tasks in which the Remaining Work estimate has been
adjusted)

This is how the team member communicates what is going on with their task to
work to their project manager. Otherwise, how will the project manager ever
know what is going on? Hope these ideas help.

Lynne:

The user must set the remaining hours to zero at the same time he/she sets
the percent complete to 100.

Gary, thanks
please can you tell me how my users can access both the % complete
field AND the remaining hours fields in PWA?

Some of my projects have both % AND remaining work open for editing,
and actual work greyed out, but others have actual work and remaining
work available, but the % greyed out - where can I change the
properties of the project so that I can enter % and remaining hours -
I'm sure it's hiding in there somewhere, I just can't find it!
thanks

Lynne:

I meant to add, you must republish all of your tasks in a project once you
change your tracking method to push the change out to the users. Keep in
mind that tasks that have started will not change and will observe the
original tracking method until completion.
